Tye Dye Easter Cupcakes

Start by making any white cake mix.

Fill your cupcake pans with liners. We used the jumbo cupcake liners in our jumbo cupcake pans because those were the only liners we had to use.

After the batter is mixed choose the colors you want to use for your cupcakes.

Then separate the batter into bowls and mix in the food coloring.

Take a spoonful of batter of one color and drop into the bottom of the cupcake liner, repeat using all the colors.

It does not matter what order you use just have fun with it and keep dropping spoonful’s on top of the other colors until all the batter is used.

Holding both sides of the pan tap the pan on the counter to make the batter settle a little more into the liners.

Bake in an oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit until lightly golden brown on top and the middle of the cupcake bounces back after you lightly push down on it (about 20 minutes, depending on your oven).

Remove the cupcakes from the oven and place them on a cooling rack.

While the are cooling make the frosting.

And now for the icing on top!

Make a buttercream frosting.

Combine 1/2 cup butter, and 1/2 cup shortening and a tsp of Pure Vanilla extract

Cream together really well.

Add 16 oz. of Powdered Sugar

Mix on medium high until well combined.

Add a tablespoon of milk or more until it is the consistency you want.

Then add a pinch of salt to give it the perfect taste.

Add your food coloring in until you get the color you like.

Pipe it on your cupcake using a tip you like. Start in the middle of the cupcake and then go out and up to make it in the shape of a bird’s nest.

And top it off with your favorite Easter egg candy.

It is so fun to bite into and see all the pretty colors.

The kids had fun taking turns piping their own nests and putting their eggs in the nest.

And of course eating them is the best part of the whole process!

Enjoy!
